The US Coast Guard intercepted the vessel, powered by four outboard motors, in waters near Malpelo
The United States Coast Guard (USCG) intervened on November 22 a narco-submarine powered by four outboard engines in waters near Malpelo, in the Colombian Pacific. On the same dates, Mexico's Semar intervened another semi-submersible with drugs in its jurisdictional waters.
The last operation was carried out by the crew of the Venturous and included the seizure of more than 4,100 pounds (about 1,800 kilos) of marijuana, a rare substance in this class of vessels. The finding shows that semi-submersibles are becoming more common and easier for narcos to build, hence they use them for less valuable transports.
In this case, according to the USCG, the confiscated merchandise would reach four million dollars in clandestine channels.
