How to make oil bath safely

Hi im going to do my first synth of meth from ephedrine and i wanna use oil bath to heat the rm but im not sure how to make it safely ? Avoid spitting of the oil, witch oil to use

I changed my mind i will use sand bath is better to have fine sand or little crystals for better heating ?

Rather use small shotgun pellets from lead or even steel in a stainless steel bowl. Despite the trapped air you get a much better heat transfer whats important as this "bath" buffers also temp spikes from the reaction and does not only transfer heat to it. Heat up slowly as the heat capacity of this (as sand baths) is high, its not so easy to cool down once you overshot temperatures (except for removing the bath, putting it on such a elevator thing is always good).

You are right not to use an oil bath they are a mess and dangerous.

Thank you for your reply. Do you have comercial name for the elevator ? Or do you have some diy tip what i can use for the elevator
