Drug-based religions, also known as entheogenic religions, are belief systems that incorporate the use of psychoactive substances, such as LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, peyote, and ayahuasca, as part of their spiritual practice. These substances are believed to have the power to induce altered states of consciousness, leading to mystical experiences and a deeper understanding of the divine.

One of the most well-known drug-based religions is the Native American Church, which uses peyote as a sacrament in its religious ceremonies. Peyote is a cactus that contains mescaline, a psychoactive compound that has been used by indigenous people for thousands of years for its spiritual and healing properties. The use of peyote in religious ceremonies was legally protected in the United States in 1994 under the American Indian Religious Freedom Act.

Another example is Santo Daime, a syncretic religion that originated in Brazil and incorporates ayahuasca into its ceremonies.
Ayahuasca is a brew made from the ayahuasca vine and other plant ingredients, which contains the psychoactive compound DMT. The Santo Daime believe that ayahuasca can facilitate spiritual growth and communication with divine entities.

And, of course, the well-known drug-based religion is Rastafarianism, which originated in Jamaica in the 1930s. Rastafarians use marijuana as a sacrament and believe that it helps to bring them closer to God. The use of marijuana is seen as a way to stimulate a spiritual experience and is an integral part of their religious practices.
Bob Marley did a lot to popularize that religion, until the CIA killed him.

The use of entheogens in religious practice is not limited to indigenous or syncretic religions. Some individuals within mainstream religions, such as Christianity and Judaism, have also incorporated the use of psychoactive substances into their spiritual practice. However, the use of such substances within mainstream religions is often controversial and not condoned by religious authorities.

The legality of drug-based religions varies from country to country. In some countries, such as the United States, the use of peyote in religious ceremonies is legally protected. In other countries, such as Brazil, the use of ayahuasca in religious ceremonies is legal but regulated. In still other countries, such as the United Kingdom, the use of psychoactive substances in religious practice is illegal.
While drug-based religions have gained some recognition in recent years, they still face stigma and opposition from some sectors of society. However, proponents of these religions argue that the use of entheogens in religious practice is a fundamental aspect of their spiritual beliefs and should be protected as a human right.

In conclusion, drug-based religions are belief systems that incorporate the use of psychoactive substances as part of their spiritual practice. While controversial, these religions have gained some legal recognition in certain countries and continue to be practiced by individuals around the world. Whether or not one agrees with the use of psychoactive substances in religious practice, it is important to recognize the diversity of spiritual beliefs and practices that exist in our world today.

Drugs are not only harmful and self-destructive, but also a path to self-knowledge, spiritual discovery, and a key to understanding many things. The main thing is not to get carried away.

All of these plants, such as mushrooms, ingredients of ayahuasca, peyote, cannabis, and many others,
were given by nature. They were given to us.

Man has found the right use for them.

The Stoned Ape Theory, or “The Psychedelic Ape Theory,” is a controversial hypothesis that suggests that psychoactive substances, specifically psychedelic mushrooms, influenced the trajectory of our prehistoric ancestors’ cognitive development.

The theory argues that early humans consumed mind-altering plants, which led to an increased capacity for creative thinking that allowed for the emergence of language, complex social bonds, and the development of societies and cultures.

Funny story, the first time I did marijuana (so, a long time ago) was with church friends at a church event. It wasn't a drug based religion or anything, but the people in the congregation were just really chill.
