Have anyone tried methylation of tryptamine using Eschweiler-Clarke reaction and metylating tryptamine with formaldehyde and formic acid? As far as I know, it could work with tryptamine with formic acid for imine reduction. And have anyone tried using modified EC reaction with other aldehydes instead of formaldehyde? If there's any evidence of this working, please text me!!

edited. i've learned some more and knew that formic acid would only cause Pictet-Spengler's reaction instead of methylation, so it probably wouldn't work at all. however, the second question remains actual. is there any evidence of using reductive alkylation with aldehydes except formaldehyde and NaBH4 or NaBH3CN?
