Just got this is from a source across the pond. I have read several posts on this forum, erowid, etc. concerning BMK>P2P and am trying to confirm the usefulness of this product prior to my fucking with it. information below shows all details that you may require a long with pictured for visual assessments as well. confirm visual confirmation ompounds.

My goals are simple. Synth enough P2P for Q2 while indulging my own curiosity into the realm of organic chem, while securing a valuable skill set.

Just got this from a source across the pond. I have read many articles and the forums concerning BMK>P2P and would like to ask for help with CAS# 718-08-1.

I am trying to confirm the usefulness of this product prior to my fucking with it.
I ordered BMK Glycidate "powdered version" however, my knowledge is limited while I continue furthering my organic chem knowledge. Please let me know if any additional info be made available.

Product details/specs:

Product: Ethyl 3-oxo-4-phenylbutanoate

CAS#: 718-08-1

Observations - has a vanilla color and a smell that is hard to describe, but not unpleasant. It would seem it could be overwhelming however, if one were to walk into a powder "cloud" of it. Compound is acidic.

Questions:

1. Is there anything I should be made aware of concerning this product? The sds that was very incomplete.

2. Is this compound what is needed for conversion to P2P? If so, could someone please point me to the method required?

My goals are simple. I'm an aspiring chemist who is bound and determined to learn. I have prepped for the better part of a year gathering all reagents, glassware, etc and have been practicing various synths successfully thanks to the collective forums/information made available for me by people with way more knowledge than what I hope to have one day.

My goal is to synth enough P2P for Q2, indulging my own curiosity into the realm of organic chem, while also adding a useful skill set to my portfolio.

Thank you in advance.

You have a liquid according to the CAS number, a dry substance in the photo. It would be great to know exactly what kind of substance you have.

For glycidates, hydrolysis in acid to p2p (aka BMK or phenylacetone)

Precisely my issue. I found the case direct from the seller who provided it and thought it was odd as well to get a powder when the CAS states liquid. However, I have ran approx 300 grams and they all come out smelling floral and a deep yellow orange liquid post hydrolyzing. They get lighter in color obviously upon washing with brine several times to get the pH to neutral. I feel as though P2P is my end product but I swear it ain't that hard to just give me what I ordered and I always do my homework prior. I'm just trying to understand why this is difficult. I even asked for powdered bmk-glycidate providing the CAS# pre order. So we shall see.

Just an update to the current situation for anyone who is curious. The shit I have does in fact produce P2P. I've ran the conversion of Glycidate salts to phenylacetone multiple times now with the same results. I've followed method by G.Patton.

I'll post pics today of my procedure to show anyone who is interested

Hi stim2023, was your yield consistent with the one in G.Patton method? Also did you experience any problems or unexpected results in the synthesis?
