Oil Heating for reactions ?

Hi, can anyone tell me why oil heating is not used? I have encountered sand several times, but oil is nowhere to be found. A pot and cooking oil and stove can also be used. It is easy to adjust the required temperature.

It is. I often use vegetable oil, although for more simple procedures. Home and cooking oil can only be heated to a certain point before they start evaporating and smoking and that isn't something you wanna deal with. It is more efficient than water but I think around 170c is the max. You will want to use automotive oils or other commercial/industry purposed ones that have a higher flash point etc.
