TCCA + N methyl pyrrolidone

I tried to dissolve trichloroisocyanuric acid in N methyl pyrrolidone and at first it turned yellow and after stirring returned to clear, I added a lot more and it released a plume of smoke and the and the remaining liquid turned black like tar.
What happened?

I don't think an additional reaction occured here. My guess would be that you added way too much too quickly. The exothermic reaction heated too quickly and the pyrolysis (no pun intended) destroyed your run.

Try again with but watch your speed/temps.
