Two clandestine ecstasy laboratories were dismantled by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Montreal. Two suspects were also detained.
Police struck four residences simultaneously in the early morning hours. Two of them housed clandestine laboratories.
The first, located on Laurentian Boulevard in the St. Laurent neighborhood, was in full operation when police arrived.
"The laboratory was active, with large quantities of chemicals inside. The equipment used to produce the drugs was very sophisticated," said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Charles Poirier.
Another clandestine laboratory was located in an apartment building on Vianney Avenue in the Villere St. Michel Park-Extension neighborhood. It was used as a processing plant where the drugs produced were pressed into pills.
The two suspects caught in the raid have not yet been charged.
Forty police officers were mobilized for the operation. The number of drugs and precursors seized has not been reported.
