I don't understand you question. Are you asking about aldol reaction (step 1) or baeyer-villiger oxidation (step 2)?

first paper is about cleavage of the double bond oxidizing alkene to aldehyde. Second is about nitroalkenes reduction. I dont see how these are related to making P2P.
